Lie With Dogs, You'll Get Fleas. Author: RaineDate:07/15/2010 12:34:47
This week at it's 101st convention, the NAACP voted to condemn racist elements that exist within the Tea Party. While the entire resolution will not be released until after it has been approved by members, President Ben Jealous stated the following at the convention:
"We will no longer allow you to hide like cowards and hide behind signs that say 'Lynch Our President' or anyone else."
"Expel the bigots and racists in your ranks or take the responsibility for them and their actions. We will no longer allow you to hide like cowards."
It's natural to assume that the conservative blogosphere was incensed. Righteous indignation has been a time honored tool of theirs. I have long contended that people are generally judged by the company they keep, and the Tea Party has proved to be no exception to the rule. They have been tainted by the racist elements that exist with the party. Naturally this was denounced by The Tea party, in particular the St. Louis Tea Party.
St. Louis Tea Party Coalition Resolution July 12, 2010
Whereas, the National Coalition for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded to advance the position of minority groups, and
Whereas a hallmark of the NAACP has been to do the important work of identifying and exposing remaining vestiges of racism and discrimination, and
Whereas the NAACP vocally stands against the discriminatory and harmful practice of labeling people with a broad brush, and
Whereas the NAACP decided to launch their 101st National Convention with a resolution condemning the Tea Party movement and labeling millions of their fellow Americans who subscribe to the movement as "racists", and
Whereas the "Tea Party movement" is a label applied to patriotic Americans who have expressed their political free speech in the grand tradition of all that is American, that being the spirited expression of viewpoints in a 100% peaceful manner, and
Whereas, it is a hallmark of America that we settle our disputes civilly and avoid the gutter tactic of attempting to silence opponents by inflammatory name-calling, and
Whereas the very term "racist" has diminished meaning due to its overuse by political partisans including members of the NAACP, and
Whereas, the NAACP had an opportunity to preserve some semblance of legitimacy by standing up for Ken Gladney, the victim of a vicious racist battery conducted by a black avowed communist, even labeling him an "Uncle Tom", but chose instead to use the opportunity to mock the St. Louis Tea Party, and
Whereas, the NAACP has refused to denounce the New Black Panther's call to murder white cops and their babies, and
Whereas, the NAACP does its entire membership a grave disservice by hypocritically engaging in the very conduct it purports to oppose,
Now therefore be it resolved that the St. Louis Tea Party condemns the NAACP for lowering itself to the dishonorable position of a partisan political attack dog organization, and,
Be it further resolved that the St. Louis Tea Party calls on similar organizations to join in unanimous condemnation of this despicable behavior, and
Be it further resolved that we demand that the NAACP withdrawal their bigoted, false and inflammatory resolution against the tea party for any further consideration, and
Be it further resolved that these organizations call on the Internal Revenue Service to evenly apply their standards and consider the tax-exempt status of the NAACP considering the degree to which they are engaging in habitual partisan political behavior.
Adopted unanimously, this day, July 12th, in the year of our Lord, 2010.
Well, I am glad they responded so quickly to such accusations. I'm am also pleased that they have decided to tell the NAACP what they should do as an organization, by helping them to 'redefine' its mission. I am sure the NAACP will apologize immediately for misunderstanding the meaning behind these images:
Heck, even I misunderstood that this was not racism, and just anger at the polices of the administration. I feel a little silly now. (do I need to tell you I was being sarcastic?)
The NAACP is doing what conservatives have done for decades in demanding that liberals and progressives separate themselves from left-wing extremists who trashed America, burned flags and praised foreign dictators.
He is correct. The Tea party is angry because someone actually did to them what they do themselves. They are even calling for President Obama to denounce the NAACP for actually daring to speak against the bigotry that is directed towards himself. Instead of taking a look at themselves, they seem to be doubling down. From Think progress:
This morning, Tea Party leader Mark Williams — who has been paid over $20,000 by the Tea Party Express political action committee — attacked the NAACP’s resolution, charging that the NAACP makes “more money off of race than any slave trader ever.”
“Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug and a racist in chief.” And in February, he called Obama “our half white, racist president.”
Then there is this:
The Tea Party doesn't seem to like having a light shown on the worst kept secret in this political movement-- it has racists among them. It exists and it isn't even considered shameful, instead it has been celebrated as a right to free speech.
Don't blame the messenger for trying to help you become more aware of it. That's free speech as well.
ooOOoo Momma was on with Nancy Giles? (I just saw part of the video that Chris is talking about, and That woman from the St. Louis Tea party is a VERY unpleasant woman-- I 'm only 1 minute or so into it!)

Why won't Cheney just die?
Maybe "The Boss" can orchestrate a trade or something with the Big Guy.

Apropo for the blog today:
One evening in October, when I was one-third sober,
An' taking home a ‘load' with manly pride;
My poor feet began to stutter, so I lay down in the gutter,
And a pig came up an' lay down by my side;
Then we sang ‘It's all fair weather when good fellows get together,'
Till a lady passing by was heard to say:
‘You can tell a man who "boozes" by the company he chooses'
And the pig got up and slowly walked away.

I want Cheney to stay around long enough enough for him to start talking.
at the very least, regarding the BP Oil spill.

Did the Warwick Mall ever dry out?
Welp.. there's a few stores open again.. Old Navy should be back up & running any day now, and most of the stores should be back by the end of September. The big department stores (Macy's & Penny's) took the biggest hit tho and may not be back until January.

Morinin' all! The Clintsters are in Tampa for our annual vaca with the Mrs.' family. I am happy to report that the beaches here are unsullied by tar balls; I'll post pics later.
Raine, I picked up a copy of the St. Pete Times with several nice articles about George Steinbrenner if you want it. Great postie, BTW.

Good morning, bloggers!!
Raine, thanks for an interesting blog. I fear that the Tea Party leaders will continue to be offended by suggestions that there are bigots within their ranks. So, I think that they will need to ask themselves if they want to play a very ugly game. If they want to oppose a President based on ideology, I am willing to have that debate and consider that fair. If they wish to use racism as a tactic and a raison d'être, then I am prepared to denounce them with all of my heart, all my soul and all my might. (Yes, that is an oblique reference to the Jewish prayer, the Shema, but anyone who claims to love anything beyond themselves -- God, their country, democratic principles -- should demand that racism has no more place in the public discourse than the concept that human sacrifices kept the crops growing in ancient times would be taken seriously in a discussion of ancient agricultural techniques. Hmm, I seem to have written a sentence that Sarah Palin might have problems working her way through.)

I'd love that, Clint.

Have a great vacation!

I understand what you are saying Will.
NAACP Ben Jealous actually called for a debate with Rand Paul using basically the same thought process.
They want to drag down the discourse. What I really appreciated from the NAACP was that he is trying to raise the discourse.
It's exactly what the SLC did under the leadership of the Reverend Lowery and Dr. King. It's a process of trying to RAISE the discourse by asking for people to come to the table, talk and work out differences.
The Tea Party is missing this point. They are being asked to debate the validity of there platform -- instead it's being met with finger pointing and deflection.
I think we have been here before.

Yes, Raine, it is a matter of denial and projecting the flaws of one's own political movement on to others. I don't think that we will see a debate.
Well, I need to finish getting ready for a job fair this morning. I may have time to hit some temp agencies tomorrow. Also, I am networking with a friend on Tuesday.

I hope for you the very best, Will.
And I think you nailed it.
projecting the flaws of one's own political movement on to others.
Mark Crispin Miller noted during the Bush years how much of what the right-wing says about the left is actually projection of what they want to do. And it fits the teabaggers to a T.
A friend of mine wrote this, I think it is worth the read:
Is if Obama had really done nothing and the stock market totally collapsed, trickling down to each sector and creating a true depression where unemployment skyrocketed from 7% to 20%, he probably could have gotten a bigger stimulus. Maybe even managed to get a program like what FDR created with the New Deal.
But at what cost? More over, and this is the ironic part, I guess, had we seen the same recovery that came out of the initial recession (remember, we're not technically in a recession anymore), everyone would probably be supporting the recovery effort. Even if we went from 20% unemployment to say only 17% unemployment and the stock market hovered around say 5,000.
It would've been a lot worse than what we've seen right now. But since it would've actually been a true depression in every sense of the word, any type of recovery would be a helpful sign. Now, since he saved our butts in February and March, we didn't go off the deep end and everyone expects 90s-era economic boom.
What do people really expect? Are they aware that THIS time things are way the hell worse than after Bush #1?
I think people do not realize how frucking deep the hole was when Obama took office.

If McCain had gotten elected, we would be in a depression.
Boeing was incorporated on this date in 1916 as "Pacific Aero Products". On this date in 1954, the company's "Dash 80" made its first flight. (It would become the 707).

So, if you go to a channel page in Youtube, copy and paste it here, it is acts like a user page? I'd say time for a software revision, but that is way too much work. Just easier to search for them outside of the channel page.
