Herman Cain: Hell No, You Will Not Get The African American Vote
Author: Kimberly    Date: 2011-10-07 07:00:00

Hello everyone,

I'm Kimberly, Bob and Raine have requested that I leave you a few of my thoughts and opinions in their absence. First, I'd like to thank Bob and Raine and the FourFreedomsBlog community for allowing me to join in with you to share my thoughts on some the political and social issues that impact our country and our lives. I've heard great things about the people that make up this forum and knowing what great people you are makes this opportunity much easier. I hope you'll find something within my post that strikes you as interesting and enlightening.

When Bob and Raine asked me to write something for posting on their forum, it was a direct “NO”. Then I spoke to Raine and I mean - how could I resist? I thought about how much I post on FB and how much I had to say and I thought “Yeah, I can do this!!!!! I can write about this, no, I'll write about that.” This went on all week and today I thought “Oh, ish...I've got to settle on a topic.” I finally did while my heart did palpitations and my “pressha” (as my mother used to call it) rose while I was watching Herman Cain say African-Americans were “brainwashed”. According to the Godfather's Pizza CEO, “African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view”. However, before I could swallow my “pressha” pill the Herminator was at it again, but this time he was attacking the Occupy Wall Street protesters and made the outlandish statement as reported by NewsOne: Cain went on to blame the unemployed for their woes, saying, “if you don’t have a job and you’re not rich, blame yourself!”:
CAIN: I don’t have facts to back this up, but I happen to believe that these demonstrations are planned and orchestrated to distract from the failed policies of the Obama administration. Don’t blame Wall Street, don’t blame the big banks, if you don’t have a job and you’re not rich, blame yourself! [...] It is not someone’s fault if they succeeded, it is someone’s fault if they failed.

My thoughts regarding Cain's idiotic statement was that he's a “Man Lost”. I was taken aback regarding Cain's “brainwashed” statement. First I thought - well why is it a problem now at this particular time that blacks voted overwhelmingly for the Democratic ticket? Is it being “brainwashed” or is it party allegiance?... Or is it staying where we have a fighting chance? Maybe if it is something wrong with the brains of African-Americans? It might be because of all the licks upside the head givien by the Republican Party. Instead of making policies that would benefit the African-American community, Republicans have been telling black people to pull those boot straps up - but the boots are too little and the straps keep snapping back.

To start with I'd like to say that Black people may be a lot of things, but stupid they are not. Unlike many Tea Party members African-Americans do not vote in large numbers against our own interest. The Democratic Party may not have all the solutions to every problem within the Black community, but the Republicans have none and they make it their business not to. Does Herman Cain believe that African Americans should vote for Michelle Bachmann who signed a pledge stating that African-Americans were better off during slavery as a family unit...Seriously????? No, we will not be voting for Michelle Bachmann. Does Herman Cain think that African-Americans should vote for Rick Perry, who had fun and frollies at his family ranch named “Nigger Head Ranch” and who relishes in executing African-American men - innocent or guilty?...who smiles when his base cheers? ohhh hell nawww, African-Americans will NOT be voting for Rick Perry. Does Herman Cain think African-Americans should vote for Willard (Mitt) Romney, who could think of nothing to say to black children but 'Who let the dogs out...ruff ruff.'? Ohhhh noooo, we will not be voting for Mitt Romney. Maybe, just maybe Herman Cain thinks that black people will become unbrainwashed and vote for him.

Herman Cain is the type of African-American who ignores the racism around him to maintain his status within the Republican Party. 'Flava of the month' Cain, chooses to ignore generations of racial injustice to advance the attitude that success just depends on you. If you're poor or out of work it's your own damn fault. Cain who has made millions off paying pizza workers minimum wage with little to no employee insurance benefits says this so easily like he got where he is all on his own accord, and not while standing on the backs of generations of Po Fokes. Even as Republicans are suppressing the votes of African-Americans and other minority populations, Cain speaks as if he is oblivious to such issues. Like the “Nigger Head Ranch” rock...having said ”He said he painted over it - case closed”...So thanks but no thanks to the GOP candidate(s) who names their hunting places Nigger Head Ranch, boos gay soldiers who are actively serving, cheers at the thought of people being executed by the government but doesn't want people to have healthcare from the government, cheers at the thought of people dying because of the lack of health insurance...Yeah, those other guys are soooo much better than Democrats and especially black ones who must be brainwashed while your Tea Party is not???? (Sarcasm off).

You defend the party that has held black people up like some type of boogyman for decades. The Welfare Queen that drives a Cadillac payed for with food stamps of course, the Willie Horton ad, the wild lies and demonizing of ACORN. The "Black Community" is not brain-washed into voting for Democrats, they vote in their best interest, since Republicans do absolutely nothing for this community, minorities in general, and the middle-class at large!!! Herman Cain seems to be the one that must be brainwashed. Considering the positions the Republican party takes on social issues and the economy, it seems that poor whites (and black and Latinos, etc) who vote Republican are the real brainwashed for consistently voting against their own economic well-being.

As I'm writing this piece all nervous about what to say here's Herman Cain peering through my television on the Lawrence O'Donnell Show; he states in his book that to avoid trouble he just moved to the back of the bus when told to. Herman Cain...no, no nooooo, hell to da nawww no. African-Americans will not be voting for you nor your 9's. African-Americans would never vote for a President that publicly stated that he moved to the back of the bus when asked to just to save his own ass and avoid “trouble”. You backed off using the term “insensitive” to describe Rick Perry's family wangdangs at their racist ranch but you continue to insult African-Americans with pride to win the votes of your parties racist base. You couldn't even call out Hank Willliams Jr. on his antics calling President Obama "Hitler" with the excuse that he didn't say the President's name.

BRAINWASHED?!?!? No, we are not brainwashed. Republican elected officials consistently legislate against minorities....CONSISTENTLY.
They were against the Civil Rights act
They were against the Dream Act
They were against equal pay for women
They were against the abolition of Don't Ask Don't Tell
African Americans WERE NOT AND ARE NOT BRAINWASHED.
We simply see, hear and feel the effects of Republican legislation.

YOU, Herman Cain, have been brainwashed into believing that the GOP accept you as an equal.
You are a token. You are a pawn. You are a tool. You are a cover for the racist agenda for the Republican party. You go ahead and roam in the wilderness Herman Cain with all your 9's in hand. African Americans, Whites, Latinos, men, women, the poor and the middle class and some of the rich will stay behind with the Democrats and our President, Barack Obama.

Can I just say this first? to Kimberly? -- Excellent Job!

Good Morning! I decided to move the laptop to the deck for better reception -- you see our internets are wired with rabbit ears at the room...

I don't know who is the least despicable candidate of these people running, I really don't, but this perspective is really wonderful.

I have found so many of the things that they all have said offensive, but when Cain backed down over the 'Ni**erHead Ranch* story followed up with the brainwashed issue I had to sit on the fainting couch. It's insulting not just to black people but to al minorities.

Thanks Kimberly for filling in today, you did WAY better than you were willing to think you could do!

Comment by Raine on 10/07/2011 12:33:37
I'm still sitting here thinking how insulting they are to women. I have long wondered why ANY woman would vote for them -- for many of the same ideas that you speak of with regard to the black Community, Kim.

Oh, yes...and "Ask a Vet" will visit for a moment...

Today is our 3,652nd day in Afghanistan.

3652 days can be converted to one of these units:
315,532,800 seconds
5,258,880 minutes
87,648 hours
521 weeks (rounded down)

Ten Years. Think of something you may have done constantly for a decade, then wonder for just a moment if there is a way out of this mess.

It's MUCH better out on the Deck. I guess the WiFi is closer to the pool, and we are the back top unit here -- about as far from the pool as one can get.

The Centerfold Senator really needs to watch what he says:

In an interview with WZLX radio, Brown had laughed and said, “Thank God,” in response to Warren’s recent comment in which she said she didn’t have to take her clothes off to pay for law school — a reference to Brown having posed nude for Cosmopolitan magazine in his 20s.

Actually, that Scott Brown story is a non-starter locally. It's more the national media making it bigger than it is.

I think we're all looking at it and going, "this is what is passing for news these days?" and shaking our heads and going back to ignoring it.

And now all the right wing teabaggers are screaming about the 1st Amendment. I will tell them what they told those of us who were and are Chick's fans (but in a nicer way) - you may have the freedom to say something but you also have to deal with the consequences of what you've said

I think it is incredibly sexist. He is one of only 100 people in the nation in his position, and that means a lot of power and responsibility. If this is how he feels about Women, it damn well sure should be a national issue.

We have been under increasing attacks from the GOP this year -- and attitudes like this help perpetuate something we have fought about for centuries.

And big protests... They are primarily agitating in NYC now, as they did during the 2004 RNC covention.

Something tells me the banks are getting a little nervous or are trying to instill fear in thier employees:

Recently all across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East the World has witnessed a surge in
protest marches and civil disobedience actions. The most prominent group to date in the United States
is the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. The “occupation” movement is a semi organized effort of
anonymous groups of “Anti Bank” protesters who are marching and picketing in many major U.S., cities; New York, Chicago, Denver, Washington D.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles.

In New York City, they have specifically targeted the financial district and Wall Street. The “Occupy Wall Street” movement’s groups are marching in response to their perception of corporate and banking
greed that followed the U.S. Government assisted “Big” bank bail outs. Their mantra is “We are the 99%
that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%.”

The movement in New York has begun to publish a four page news paper titled “The Occupied Wall
Street Journal.” The current edition of the published document loosely outlines the group’s manifesto
and intentions. The group has indicated that they have been inspired by the results from similar groups involved in the “Arab Spring” in the Middle East. The group’s publication cites an intention to first to protest and then to march, escalating to civil disobedience when necessary.

These types of groups are reaching out to the disengaged and disenfranchised population of the United States for members, often encouraging the unemployed and homeless to join the movement. Often these marches and protests are unplanned and result from instant notification on “Social Networks” that produce “Flash Protest Mobs” in a matter of minutes. While this group has not yet resorted to violence the possibility exists that they can.

*redacted* Bank Corporate Security has worked to develop the following safety tips and suggestions for our employees should they encounter the type of activities described above.

At no time should a *redacted* Bank Employee attempt to engage or confront a protest group or stop a march. Instead, *redacted* Bank Employees encountering any such activity should immediately contact the Police.

Safety Tips
When encountering a protest group or march every effort should be made to avoid the group. Consider
using an alternate exit or route.

• Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you at all times.
• If you feel uncomfortable, immediately move or leave the area.
• If surrounded in a protest march or mob don’t panic move to the outside of the crowd as safely as possible.
• Seek refuge in an unaffected business or restaurant until police arrive.
• Plan before you go. Choose the safest route.
• Avoid poorly lit areas and isolated locations that may make you vulnerable to an attack.
• Keep the cars doors locked while driving in the area of a mob or protest march.
• Project an image of confidence and strength. Walk with a purpose and avoid hesitation, keep your head up, shoulders back and make eye contact with people you pass.
• Avoid confrontation and unnecessary contact with protesters.
• Avoid walking or driving alone. There is safety in numbers.
• Carry purses close to the body.
• Wallets and cash are best kept in a front pocket.
• Avoid wearing Bank ID or logo items outside the bank if possible.
• Keep your cell phone charged and close at hand.
• Have emergency contact information pre-programmed into your phone.
• Have your keys out and ready before you need them.
• If you feel that you’re in danger or if you observe suspicious or illegal activities, call the police or dial 911.
• If confronted or attacked, try to remain calm and cooperate by following the attacker’s instructions.
• Do not attempt to reason or argue with the protesters.
• Cooperate and do not risk your personal safety.
• Be a good witness and try to remember as many details of what occurred as you can.

Howdy all. Kimberly, that was one heck of an awesome blog this morning. Welcome to our little liberal outpost.

Wow that bank thing was a bit over the top - you'd think the protesters were roving gangs of thugs going Road Warrior on anyone who simply works for a financial institution

Good day folks. I caught the Cain interview on the 3 AM repeat since I was watching the start of Hockey season last night. Of course we can't forget how Herman Cain back-pedaled from his initial denouncement of Perry's little rock when he got attacked by them for bringing it up rather than Perry for at minimal tolerating it and most likely condoning it.

Thom Hartmann is talking now about how Cain is the Koch Brothers favorite candidate which may say a lot.

To counter HErman Cain, Santorum (*giggle*) comes up with a 0-0-0 plan....

“People don’t understand how moral issues are absolutely essential for the economic success of this country,” Mr. Santorum said. This is why policies should “nurture and support institution of marriage and fathers taking care of their children,” he said, adding that as president, he would “fight in every state to make sure that marriage remains between one man and one woman.”

“Our rights come from God – not any god, but the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,” Mr. Santorum said, drawing applause from the audience at the conservative Christian gathering.

Mr. Santorum pointed to the passage of a ban on late-term abortions, the Defense of Marriage Act and welfare reform during his years in Congress as evidence of his “track record of standing up and fighting those battles and winning those battles.”
He also presented a 0-0-0 economic plan (in contrast to Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan for corporate, income and sales taxes).

To increase blue-collar jobs in the United States, Mr. Santorum said he would impose a zero-percent tax rate on manufacturing and processing plants, charge no taxes on companies that return to the United States after investing abroad, and eliminate “every single regulation the Obama administration has put in place.”

Cain makes no sense when he talks.

I was amazed at that ODonnel interview.

That doesn't surprise me at all he announced to all the world, God and all his children that his black behind does what the white man tells him to do. If he is told to go to the back of the bus that is what he does because he don't want no trouble...and that wasn't a typo. I was never so ashamed in my life. If I were the Koch brothers I'd be for him...he's definitely a yes man. I don't know how to reply on here so forgive me if I'm in err.

I feel your pain sir. Every day I find myself wearing a freaking sweater at work. Keep in mind where I live. I didn't know were montizing the office space by using it as cold storage locker for fur coats.

There's a car out in the office park lot that is sporting a "Cut Spending Now" bumper sticker...sponsored by "Americans for Prosperity".

I'm contemplating slipping a screed under the windshield wiper.

Context: Listen to yesterday's Fresh Air, or read the New Yorker column "State for Sale".

And ask him where he was during the Bush years and what was he saying about those deficits. Nice to see people advertising that they are bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers or Karl Rove.

Are we ready for a December primary?

This is getting ridiculous. If this keeps up, we'll be having primaries on the day after the inauguration soon.

Of course I come back to work and I'm already back in the insanity that is Hockey Season on MSG. Tomorrow will be even more fun when I do the Rangers from Sweden in the afternoon followed by an evening with the Devils and Hockey Night Live with even some bonus Islanders coverage (simulcasting Plus) thrown in.
