It's like the Devil is Running the Bible Study
Author: Raine    Date: 11/02/2015 14:02:20

The Hilton in Old Town Alexandria was the setting last night for all (minus one) Republican presidential campaign meeting to discuss changing debate rules and conditions going forward.
It was convened by Ben Carson campaign manager Barry Bennett and included representatives from all the campaigns, except Carly Fiorina's.

The principle objective was achieving greater control in determining debate criteria with the media sponsors -- a role that until now has been held by the RNC. The campaigns have grown frustrated with the RNC's handling of the process, especially in the wake of CNBC's messy handling of the third GOP debate last week.

But while several campaigns advocated for relegating the RNC to handling logistics, ticketing and other mundane matters, there is no indication that the campaigns actually intend to remove the RNC from the negotiating table.
They didn't remove the RNC from the negotiating table last night because the RNC was never invited to the table.

By now we all know that the RNC has pulled away from any future debates affiliated with NBC allegedly due to the unfair treatment by the CNBC moderators.
"While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of 'gotcha' questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates," RNC Chairman Reince Priebus wrote in a letter to NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack.

Since CNBC is an NBC Universal property, "We are suspending the partnership with NBC News” for its Feb. 26 debate.

Priebus’s email panned CNBC for "inaccurate or downright offensive" questions, specifically singling out a question to Donald Trump, who was asked whether he was running a "comic book" version of a presidential campaign.
The pullout with NBC Universal also interestingly includes a planned debate with Telemudo; NBC's Spanish speaking channel.

This makes last nights meeting with the RNC even more interesting.
The meeting also exposed a leadership rift that has widened in recent days between the Republican National Committee, which negotiated the debate schedule and formats, and some of the candidates. RNC officials said they would not participate in Sunday’s meeting, but they have been reassuring campaign operatives that they are willing to recalibrate the events.

Shortly before the meeting began, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus announced a staff shake-up within the GOP that appeared intended to calm the unhappiness of the presidential campaigns.
As I stated above, the RNC was not invited, however it appears that the RNC is trying to imply that they chose not to attend.

So they want serious changes in debate issues going forward with one glaring exception:
As the meeting got underway, senior strategists from several presidential campaigns revealed in e-mails and text messages that Priebus’s staff shake-up was not enough. One campaign manager, speaking about the private meeting on the condition of anonymity, wrote: “Major question is if the RNC should be involved at all.”

The campaigns reached an early consensus on one issue, according to several operatives in the room: the secure standing of Fox News Channel. Any changes would be applied to debates after next week’s Fox Business Network debate. Among the reasons, according to one operative in the room, was that “people are afraid to make Roger (Ailes) mad,” a reference to the network’s chief.
(snip)
As they left the hotel, Republican aides said reporters should expect the campaigns to release a joint letter addressed to the television networks by Tuesday. It will list what the campaigns want for the upcoming debates and was agreed to before the meeting ended. Campaigns will have Monday to review it a final time and formally sign off.

Is that crazy enough? No, it is terrible, according to Breitbart. Not for the reasons you might think; it's because it is STILL too inside-the-beltway and too establishment. And it is all Lindsey Graham's fault for 'LETTING THE DEVIL RUN BIBLE STUDY’:
But GOP campaigns are worried with Ginsberg inserting himself into the process that whatever comes out of this event may end up being worse than it was going in.

“It’s like letting the devil run Bible study,” one senior GOP operative with one GOP campaign told Breitbart News when asked for reaction to the news that Ginsberg was involved.

That’s because Ginsberg has a troubling history of gaming the process to help the Washington establishment crush conservatives. As the establishment in 2012, run by allies of then-GOP nominee Mitt Romney, made several changes to RNC rules, Ginsberg ran point.

It is clear that the RNC is crumbling and I personally see little to no hope of its resurrection in any reasonable format.

This is the table post meeting:

Morning

Saw in passing on CNN that Huckabee wants all moderators to be Repubs.

And could those lazy asses not have found a trash can or recycling for their trash?

Btw - is anyone miffed that Ryan is basically going to be living out of the Speakers Office? I know a few others do it as a stunt, but really just no.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

Raine, a great blog!! The GOP has candidates coming across as petulant children and an RNC that seems incapable of leadership. I wonder if the Whigs looked this way at the end?

Subsidized housing!

(Yes, it irritates me considering he just got 50 thousand dollar raise for the new job.

Is it socialized benefits for the wealthy and powerful and nothing under a capitalist system for the rest of us or is it capitalism's benefits, socialized benefits for the wealthy and very little for the rest of us?

It makes for such a good impression to have meetings in an office where you might have to move a stack of underwear out of the way to sit down. So classy. These buildings were not made to live in and now "we the people" have to make allowance to these stunters using extra water and power.

I am dubious myself. First they list a woman as a Klan member, The Klan is a fraternal organization, woman's auxiliary perhaps. Second and more importantly, which Klan? There are several different Klan organizations. There isn't just one "Klan," this isn't the 1920s. Third, how many of these klansmen are actually FBI informants?

Comment by Mondobubba on 11/02/2015 19:23:08
Okay they address the Klan affiliations...

There is also his lack of familiarity with pop culture when he read the tweet and it got to Paul Ryan's love of Rage Against the Machine and how Tom Morellow thought about it.

BREAKING (regarding today's blog)

Trump campaign to negotiate directly with TV networks on debate formats
Trump plans to reject a joint letter to television network hosts regarding upcoming primary debates drafted Sunday at a private gathering of operatives from at least 11 presidential campaigns, the Republicans said.

The move by Trump, coming just hours after more than a dozen Republican strategists huddled in the Washington suburbs to craft a list of possible demands, effectively throttles an effort by the campaigns and the letter’s drafter, longtime GOP attorney Ben Ginsberg, to find consensus and work collectively to negotiate terms.

I'm calling shenanigans on this. On of the people they are saying has ties to the Klan is Madeline Rogero the Democratic mayor of Knoxville, TN. Um she's Catholic, after African Americans and Jews, the Klan hates Catholics.

Does this sound like the resume of a Klan member:

During the mid-1970s, Rogero and her first husband, Mark Pitt, worked as organizers for César Chávez's United Farm Workers, a labor union that sought better wages for migrant farm workers. She and Pitt moved to Knoxville in 1980, where Pitt helped run the textile workers' union, Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers, now UNITE HERE.

Being very pro-union, another well know Klan position.
