John McCain wants to bring back slavery.
Author: Raine    Date: 07/21/2008 12:23:52

On September 11, John McCain will speak at a forum promoting volunteerism..
"The summit will be an important remembrance of those that made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country and others as we focus on how to inspire others to serve causes greater than their own self-interest through national and community service," said McCain...
Now wait a minute.... hold on a second. Does that mean Grampa wants to reinstitute slavery? According to Jonah Goldberg, it would seem so.
There’s a weird irony at work when Sen. Barack Obama, the black presidential candidate who will allegedly scrub the stain of racism from the nation, vows to run afoul of the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery.

For those who don’t remember, the 13th Amendment says: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime … shall exist within the United States.”
And what about that insightful World Net Daily? This is what they had to say about the Obama plan to increase the size of both the Peace and AmeriCorps:
I thought Democrats generally believed the U.S. spent too much on the military. How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together?

Now, maybe he was misquoted by the Congressional Quarterly and the Chicago Tribune. I guess it's possible. If so, you would think he would want to set the record straight. Maybe he misspoke. That has certainly happened before. Again, why wouldn't the rest of my colleagues show some curiosity about such a major and, frankly, bone-chilling proposition?

Are we talking about creating a police state here?
Ahh... a police state, a future Slave owner... yeah... that's the plan there guys.

What will they do when they find out McCain is doing the same thing? I am sure, tho, that the likes of Jonah Goldberg and Josef Farah from WND will take their toys, go home and NOT vote for McCain just like another one of their RW leaders, James Dobson, right? They are a principled people these wingers, right... oh.. wait.. This came across the AP yesterday
"I never thought I would hear myself saying this," Dobson said in a radio broadcast to air Monday. "... While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might."

I think it's great, James Dobson is going to vote for a future slave owner.... Jonah Goldberg said so.

Or... maybe this is another example of McBush parroting Obama's plans for America.

:peace: and
Raine

Damn, Jonah Goldberg is an ass. Maybe he should look up the definitions of the terms "slavery" and "involuntary." Of course if he did that, he couldn't throw those terms around so recklessly.

An interesting post, Raine!

From what little I caught of the London seminar, Neal Boortz came off to me as a snobby elitist. He believes the country shouldn't be democratic and that it would be fine if fewer people voted. I guess he misses the day when only white male property owners were allowed to vote.

The Politico points out that Obama raised $25 million on the last day of June alone:

His one-day haul represents nearly half of his monthly total and more than Republican rival John McCain generated for the entire month. During the month, McCain did not have a single day in which he raised a million dollars.

And it was McCain who owns the first big gaffe of the trip -- appearing to confuse Iraq and Afghanistan.

Asked by ABC's Diane Sawyer Monday morning whether the "the situation in Afghanistan in precarious and urgent," McCain responded:

"I think it's serious. . . . It's a serious situation, but there's a lot of things we need to do. We have a lot of work to do and I'm afraid it's a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq/Pakistan border," said McCain, R-Ariz., said on "Good Morning America."

Iraq and Pakistan do not share a border. Afghanistan and Pakistan do.

If the NSA can spot trends (and it does) the WH and the GOP have a grip on what the people really want. Just before the election they will say and do anything to stay in power. I think it will blow up in their faces - it is doing that so far. The GOP will alll but abandon the (so-called) principles if they think it will keep them in power.

Iraq's investment committee is studying projects proposed by U.S. and Russian firms to turn Saddam Hussein's palace near the site of ancient Babylon into a tourist site with a casino, an Iraqi paper said.

Government paper Al-Sabah quoted Saleh al-Muslimawi, governor of the Babil Province about 85 kilometers (55 mi) south of Baghdad, as saying that the projects also entailed the restoration of museums in Babylon. He declined to give the companies' names.

Senator Barack Obama is in Iraq for consultations with American military commanders and Iraqi leaders.

Despite all the talk about Iraq being "calm," I'd like to point out that the month just before the visit Barack Obama made to Iraq (he went in January, 2006), there were 537 civilian and ISF Iraqi casualties. In June of this year, 2008, there were 554 according to AP. These are official statistics gathered passively that probably only capture about 10 percent of the true toll.

That is, the Iraqi death toll is actually still worse now than the last time Obama was in Iraq! (See the bombings and shootings listed below for Sunday). The hype around last year's troop escalation obscures a simple fact: that Obama formed his views about the need for the US to leave Iraq at a time when its security situation was very similar to what it is now! Why a return to the bad situation in late 05 and early 06 should be greeted by the GOP as the veritable coming of the Messiah is beyond me. You have people like Joe Lieberman saying silly things like if it weren't for the troop escalation, Obama wouldn't be able to visit Iraq. Uh, he visited it before the troop escalation, just fine.

McCain and the GOP - blather, rinse, repeat as needed . .

Planned Parenthood taking aim at Sen. McCain

What many are calling Senator John McCain’s “Viagra moment” has become fodder for a new television ad from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the political and advocacy arm of the abortion rights group.

The 30-second ad features a video clip of Mr. McCain’s long, long pause and subsequent “duck” (his word) of a reporter’s question about whether he thinks it is fair that some health insurance companies cover the drug Viagra but not birth control pills.

“I don’t usually duck an issue, but I’ll try to get back to you,” Mr. McCain told the reporter while traveling aboard his Straight Talk Express bus last week.

Speaking to journalists in Washington, D.C. last week, McCain adviser Carly Fiorina, pointed out that some women are frustrated that certian insurance companies pay for Viagra but not birth control. In subsequent interviews, Mr. McCain tried to explain the apparent discrepancy between Ms. Fiorina’s contentions and his own position, evidenced by Senate votes in opposition to coverage for contraception. His campaign has said that he voted against at least one bill because it would have allocated taxpayer money for emergency contraceptives.

Planned Parenthood said the ad is being aimed at women voters, and will be broadcast during the season premiere of “Project Runway,” on Bravo, Lifetime’s “Army Wives,” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in some markets. It will air in battleground states, including Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, and Wisconsin, as well as in the Washington, D.C. area.

“John McCain is out of touch when it comes to women’s health care,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Her group, which endorsed Senator Barack Obama, is sponsoring a “kNOw McCain” campaign that portrays Mr. McCain as unfriendly to women’s health issues

This man is woefully out of touch with ANY woman's issue.

Like equal pay for equal work...

Strawberries seem to be in season - they've been awfully cheap at the store... but then - REAL Key Lime Pie is a rare thing. If it's a good recipe, then it will be appreciated by "those who know"...

What we need now is to drop the term "war" and use the more correct "occupation." To the extent there was a war - we won it. The day Bremer disbanded the Iraqi military the "WAR" in Iraq was over. It has been an occupation since.

Back from The Dark Knight. My short review, without giving away anything much, though I'll put up the :

Not nearly as good as Batman Begins, but worth watching for Heath Ledger alone! A bit too many plots going on (both in "lines" and schemes). And some of the action affects so complex that they're hard to follow.

Heath deserves an Oscar nom. What a fun role that must have been. Why do people think he may have died because that role was so "intense". His character in Brokeback Mountain was certainly more conflicted and I would think, weigh on someones soul more than a cartoon bad guy! But I'll let the real actor on the blog chime in on that.

Mr. Gottesman, 28, will be responsible for coordinating the movement of the president whenever he leaves the White House grounds, either for events in town or for domestic or international travel.

In his previous position, Mr. Gottesman handled all of the president's immediate needs: carrying his bag, taking pictures of the president with fans at rope lines, handing him hand sanitizer and trotting just behind him at all times during his official duties.

"Blake is a trusted aide who understands the tremendous challenges of overseeing White House operations," Mr. Bush said in a statement. "He is well-respected in the White House and will do an outstanding job helping to ensure that the staff continues to effectively serve the American people throughout the remainder of the president's administration."

Mr. Gottesman's father, Sanford L. Gottesman, is a prominent Texas real estate developer and longtime friend of the Bush family.

In addition, when Mr. Gottesman was in high school, he dated the president's daughter, the former Jenna Bush, who was married to Henry Hager this summer.

Yeah, I had to take a little break and sort my mind out today because I got my hand in the way of the static discharge gun. Even though it's only static, 15,000V still hurts. I was too intent on watching the screen of what I was testing to see where I was putting the gun.

That outdoor stuff is on a much much much bigger scale. Even though it was supposedly a severe thunderstorm warning, there was very little lightning going on, just a hell of a lot of water. Still a stupid thing on my part which I realized half way through my mad dash to the car.

Never, ever, EVER store a can of WD-40 in the pantry next to the can of Pam.

scared the CRAP out of my family laughing at that one.

Hullo mah lovelies. home again, jiggity jig....went up to Duluth for the weekend after landing from the land of mom and dad. Healing waters of Lake Superior were awesome, 62 degrees, sweatshirts and Some-mores. sigh.

Dad is doing fantastically, at home, doing his thing, already been down to his office/studio, bitching about things....so pretty much stuff is back to normal. Sistah ssg was still there this afternoon, thinking about returning to home tonite.

Dad sends love to all those who vibed for him. He gets a kick of knowing theres lots of people out there thinking of him. Meantime, he is pissed he has to turn down a gig in LA to shoot pix of COLDPLAY. Yes, seriously. OY.

I am so very happy to read this news, RN.

Tell dad that Coldplay is overrated, imo.

Reports: McCain Closing In On VP Choice

John McCain will huddle with vice presidential aspirant Bobby Jindal during a trip to New Orleans later this week, sources close to the campaign confirm to The Fix.

McCain's trip to Louisiana on Wednesday was the cause of much head scratching in the political world as it was not in keeping with a week of planned stops in battleground states.

But, the meeting with Jindal, who has been the state's governor since 2007, suggests that McCain himself is deeply engaged in the process of picking his second-in-command and that the youthful Jindal is under serious consideration.

Please let it be Bobby "the Exorcist" Jindal . . .

Oh please, please, please pick Bobby Jindal! That would be the wheels coming off the Straight Talk Express, careening into the ditch, flipping over a couple of times and catching on fire in big special effect explosion. Ya know like SMS does from time to time.

Uh................... um....................

:thud:

Velveeta & Capt,

I loved being in progressive Oregon where all I saw were Obama signs and bumper stickers, I was back in Oklahoma for only about 20 minutes and I spotted three McCain yard signs and at least two bumper stickers - ugh. This state is soooo red that I really wonder how much longer I can live here :o

Cheers,

mfaye

 & :peace:

Memo

To: Rudy Guilliani

From: Everybody Who Isn't a Total Asshole

re: You are No Winston Churchill

Rudy, Rudy, RUDY! Will be please stop waiving the bloody shirt of 9/11 already? You saying you took inspiration from Churchill in England's darkest hour is okay. But thinking you are some sort Churchillian statesman is really something else. Will you please go quietly away? Please? You are of no consequence since your utter failure in the Republican primaries.

Ya know I never knew polygamy was a sexual orientation. I thought was a societal practice. You learn something new every day! Who knew?

How a year in Iraq changed an Obama adviser.

One page - one excellent page. .

I won't always agree with Barack but he seems to have good people around him - THAT is important to me.

Hi there. I can refresh the blog on my desktop but can't log in when I click the comments link on my laptop despite cleaning the cache. There seems to be a code glitch when trying to click the comments link because I couldn't get into yesterday's blog either.

Still home. I finally got in on my laptop. I had to reboot it to get it to work. Mostly packed. Just have to put my medicines in.

I thought you'd be leaving today - clearly more tomorrow, eh?

I said earlier today that I wouldn't be leaving until tomorrow morning when my flight was. Today was errand day.

I have trouble with multisyllabic words, tomorrow is far too long a word to begin with.
