Last night, this happened.
The House on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to advance new financial sanctions against key U.S. adversaries and deliver a foreign-policy brushback to President Trump by limiting his ability to waive many of them.

Included in the package, which passed 419 to 3, are new measures targeting key Russian officials in retaliation for that country’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election, as well as sanctions against Iran and North Korea in response to those nations’ weapons programs.

Members of the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, have resisted the congressional push — in particular a provision attached to the Russian measures that would require Congress to sign off on any move to relieve those sanctions.

The bill goes back to the Senate for another vote. Back in June, the Senate voted 97-2 on sanctions for Russia and Iran.
Congress will consider imposing new sanctions on Russia and Iran as well as North Korea, after Republicans and Democrats agreed to changes that will allow the legislation to move ahead. The bill also aims to prevent President Trump from relaxing sanctions without lawmakers' consent.

An earlier form of the sanctions legislation had sailed through the Senate with a 97-2 vote last month. But that legislation focused only on Russia and Iran. It then lost momentum in the House after representatives said they wanted to include North Korea. That conflict has been resolved, lawmakers say.

CBS radio is reporting that Russia is not happy and is suggesting it will retaliate. I don't have a link but will update when one is available.

It's a small, but important, step to curb what the lunatic in the White House can and cannot do.

Let's see what insanity this day brings us. Sessions is still in Twitlers crossfire. Will he be fired today?

&

I have a disturbing anecdote from a scout at jamboree that 'instructions were given' by BSA officials on how to behave during the President's speech.

Javi is back Sunday afternoon and I will be getting a full report.

I hope you will be able to shed some more light on this.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

I expect that there will be some pushback against Trump's ban on transgender people serving in the military.

Meanwhile, the Senate rejected the latest replace and repeal plan. I am not sure Trump cares about whether his Senate allies win next year. He seems to have no concern of what happens to others.

There seems to be this urban legend that transgender people are joining the service to have their sexual reassignment surgery on the government's dime. I haven't chased that down yet but based on my sampling of the idiots who love Louie Gohmert and follow him on Facebook, this seems to be the case. Yeah, I follow Louie because he is comedy gold.

I think that we are at or nearly at the point in 1984 where O'Brian explains the Party's true goals.

“Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.”

― George Orwell, 1984

But why would they if this is not something that effects their constituents as a whole? Yes, it part of the platform for the party and I stand by it, BUT is my voters are more effected by healthcare, clean water and air, and jobs why would I put 100% focus on that issue?

Am I not thinking about this right, or like I said just being dense? Or not explaining myself well?

There's another facet to this tho, which I'm already seeing from ppl on Twitter who are trans. They're jumping all over Tom Perez and the Dems for not doing more than speaking out against this shit and promising to fight for LGBT rights, like we always have. Yet it seems that's not good enough.

Comment by velveeta jones on 07/26/2017 14:45:55
Morning.

I agree, this Trans ban is just to get Dems caught in a hard place with moderate/Christian "middle America" (whatever that means) left leaning indies to sway them towards trump. Dems shouldn't fall for it. If you're worried that people want to get sex reassignment procedures on the gov. dime, just make a law. They made one that women can't get abortions paid for by the government. Same deal. One day all these special laws will go away.

Mala, Trump and the GOP may be able to sell their constituents that the repeal of the ACA is for their own good. In this case, I think Trump is trying to throw red meat to his base to keep them distracted. If they have someone to hate, it may keep them distracted and loyal.

Back from Louie Gohmert's Facebook page. A couple the tools his supporters were saying that the military shouldn't be used for social experimentation. My response to both was like when Harry Truman desegregated it by an executive order?

Yes, because human rights are just an experiment, and the desire to serve your country in the military means nothing if you're different. What a bunch of idiots.
