Catch 22, Ladies.
Author: Raine    Date: 03/02/2020 14:06:21

Good Morning. Mayor Pete Buttigieg has suspended his presidential campaign leaving us with an even less diverse field. I liked him and I think he will be back on the national stage. It's only a matter of time before more people leave this race.

I know that in the greater picture of where this country is heading, diversity should not be my biggest concern. It's not, but it is a concern. as we talk about our lurch towards authoritarianism, we are also seeing the rise -- a re-rising actually -- of White Supremacy in our country. and while we have many viable candidates still running, the idea of a white man over the age of 70 is a seeming return to the "good old days". It's not a slam on them, it's just how I feel.

We must get this dangerous idiot out of office, of that there is no question. I feel like we are being told that Older White men can fix the problem of having a racist fascist and his cultish followers dictating (literally and figuratively) the direction of this nation. It feels almost like we'd still be going backward, just a little less quickly. It's almost as if women and people of color and LGBTQ people are being told to step aside and let the 'men' handle it. It's not overt sexism, it's just the way it's been since forever, and I will accept it once again if it means saving this country -- because it does mean saving this country. What a damn catch-22.

I will vote for whomever our nominee is in the General election -- but I am still thinking about my Maryland (NY, PA, CT & DE included) primary vote on April 28, 2020. I hope my vote matters.

&
Raine

Morning

I, at least, have hope that we are very soon to have more diversity at the top of our party. Hillary may not have won the electoral numbers in 2016, she won the vote of the people. And because of that, this year we got 4 bad ass women ( plus Tulsi's amazing hair) seeking the nomination. I still remember when Pat Schroeder was looking into running for Pres (1988) and because she cried she was considered to weak to ever try again. Or Geraldine Ferraro (1984) getting so close to breaking the barriers. It took 28 years for those cracks to finally yield the flood of women who ran and/or won elections from 2016-2019.

I have hope that Buttigeg, Castro, and Yang have cracked barriers for themselves and others to come later at the top of the party. We've got some pretty amazing people in our party. They stress me out, make me crazy, but I love them all.

Did any of that make sense or did I ramble?

Totally makes sense.

I am just frustrated as hell.

SSssssooooo I'll be voting Biden tomorrow. Sure he's not my 1st choice BUT can't vote for Pete now, Amy is awesome but she's at like 5% in VA. Warren I do really like her but she too is too low in polls here. Top three in VA are Bernie, Bloomberg and Biden. Not gonna lie, Uncle Joe vibes make me feel good. Sure he's got gaffs galore but I really believe he tries his best for everyone and will also listen to others to make things even better.

But primaries are for falling in love - vote your heart, its ok

I don't know who I am going to be abe to vote for. Not used to being a state with such a late primary.

I very much respect your choice. If he wins the Nom -- I really want Harris as VP.

Oh very much the same. Had so hoped we'd had had a woman president by now, or several. I'm watching the VP spot, think its going to be super important this year. Praying that whoever it is doesn't got with a pick that is a walking Dad joke again. Kaine was a nice guy, but ....meh

I feel like we should all vote for who we want - regardless of how they're polling.

She may be an unwitting Russian asset but she does have great hair.

Pete was not another aging white guy. He was new, different, and I daresay fresh. We need more of that in Washington, not less. I have long been on an anti-incumbent kick, and while it's true that neither Bernie or Biden is incumbent, how long have they both been around? It is time for somebody new.

And I'm sorry; Senator Warren is just too divisive: I don't even like her as our Senator. It might be telling to some that in a house full of Massachusetts Democrats, not one of us is voting for her.

My vote is already cast; I voted early (02/24), so I guess I now officially regret not crossing the line and voting for former Governor Bill Weld. (Part of me wants to see Trump lose a primary, anywhere.) My vote doesn't count this time.

Why do personally believe she is divisive?

I've said for a while, she's the Democrat's Trump. Not politically, mind you - she is as much a dog-whistle for the "D" crowd as Trump is for the "R"s. There would be no unity, or moving forward - just more battles with Mitch McConnell. She is not the candidate to unify anyone - Repugs would turn on her just as viciously and violently as we oppose Trump.

What would that get us, nationally?
