Ask A Vet
Author: TriSec    Date: 11/06/2007 11:20:17

Good Morning.

A slightly different Ask A Vet this morning...

We'll start as we always do, with the latest casualty figures from the Warron Terra, courtesy of antiwar.com:

American Deaths
Since war began (3/19/03): 3849
Since "Mission Accomplished" (5/1/03): 3710
Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 3388
Since Handover (6/29/04): 2990
Since Election (1/31/05): 2412

Other Coalition Troops: 304
US Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 457

Last night, the tactic of waterboarding was discussed at length by both Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrams. Let's do a brief exercise; it won't take long.

First, read the code (thanks, Raine!):

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 113C > § 2340

As used in this chapter—

1. “torture” means an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control;

2. “severe mental pain or suffering” means the prolonged mental harm caused by or resulting from—

A. the intentional infliction or threatened infliction of severe physical pain or suffering;

B. the administration or application, or threatened administration or application, of mind-altering substances or other procedures calculated to disrupt profoundly the senses or the personality;

C. the threat of imminent death; or

D. the threat that another person will imminently be subjected to death, severe physical pain or suffering, or the administration or application of mind-altering substances or other procedures calculated to disrupt profoundly the senses or personality; and

3. “United States” means the several States of the United States, the District of Columbia, and the commonwealths, territories, and possessions of the United States.

Now, watch the video:

Next, answer the question:

Is this torture, yes or no?

And it's worth noting that in all the discussions last night, only Pat Buchanan, the politician in the group, wouldn't give a straight answer. Even Dan called him "insane".

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TODAY!!!

I called my representative last night and told him to vote for the Kucinich resolution. The girl answered the phone and all I said was "Hi. I would like to ask John Larson to vote for House Resolution 333 tomorrow." And, she said : perking up : "OK! I'll let him know!"

My friend tried to vote before work today and Surprise! Surprise! the new Optical Scam machines weren't working. So, if she really does want to vote, she's got to make time to go back again after work.

What a crock!

Comment by TriSec on 11/06/2007 14:43:09
Heh.

Last Friday eve was our den meeting at the Bright school in Waltham. In the corner of the cafeteria was a big black case on wheels. This appeared new, so I lifted it up and rolled it out to see what it was.

It was a voting machine.

Unguarded, not locked up, completely out in the open where anyone could mess with it.

Fortunately, we use optical-scan "accu-vote" machines in this city[re: paper trail!], not manufactured by Diebold. But still...

I had this theory when the campaign began and I think I might be correct; john edwards may be the marathon runner of this primary. . . he's been steady and now he's going to kick it up for the home stretch.

Stenny Hoyer is trying to derail this? That's not what it sounded like per Randi.

It sounded like referring to Judiciary would be the next step.

Now I'm thoroughly confused.

Are they voting on this multiple times?

If it's approved, what next?

If it's voted down, what next?

And does Dennis Kucinich need to have an armed escort home tonight? We wouldn't want his car to end up upside-down in the Potomac, if you catch my meaning.

So at what point can we say that the NEOcons are DONE? What we must do is get the message out to the republicans that this agenda no longer works... not that it ever did, but that America does not want this. When only 25% of Americans affiliate themselves as Republicans... said party has a serious platform problem. I am saying it here today and maybe first... I think we are seeing a republican correction today.

yeah... the votre was today... the first set of munmbers was the motion to table the proposition... it was crazy shite! Everyone voted to table it, and then the numbers started to change!!!

THEN hoyer voted to have it brought to the judiciary committee... and that passed... so while dennis did not get the up or down vote... he forced the impeachment to the committee... basically... impeachment is NOT off the table.

I was posting as fast as I could post the vote changes.
