There's been so much going on politically lately that it's hard to pin down one thing. We went from "Biden is decrepit" to "tRump got shot" to the surrealism of the RNC. It's media saturation overload.
During this time, the U.S. has endured one of the hottest summers ever. Here in the DC area, we've had mid 90s consistently for the past several weeks (with overnight lows never dipping below mid 70s). Coincidentally, our A/C has been out this whole time, and we had to buy a couple window units so we could at least sleep and have a reasonably comfortable place in the house to sit and relax.
I know - First World Problems
But is it, though? Here in our "first world" (or are we 2nd after Europe?), there are plenty of people in the lower income brackets (i.e.: living in poverty). Do they have A/C? Can they afford the electric bills to run it even when they do?
We don't see much reporting these days about "slums", areas in cities where housing conditions are at their worst. Even rural areas have pockets of slum-like housing, although it's harder to picture, since they're not all in one location. These people in the rural areas are the most likely to be tRump cultists, likely believing that their "savior" will lift them out of poverty. Obviously, he won't.
They are also the most likely to believe and promote the concept that global warming is a natural phenomenon, not man-made (the data strongly suggests otherwise, as most readers of this little blog already know). Sure, there have been eras of cooling and warming, but these were always caused by other factors: volcanic eruption or the over-population of a particular species.
Perhaps it's these excessively warm days, the first hurricane in June, etc. that has led Republicans to avoid talking about it, and instead focus on other "important" things, like President Biden's age, Hunter Biden's laptop, DEI, CRT, and other various acronyms.
I haven't been watching the RNC, but apparently it's been like a tRump presidency: a complete shitshow. This sort of incompetence and mixed messaging (from a group that promised to "tone it down" and "promote unity") is exactly what we've come to expect from these unqualified selfish self-absorbed, venal cowards.
tRumpy has previously claimed that under Biden's presidency, we are now a "third world country" (again, despite mountains of data to the contrary). Should the worst-case-scenario happen in November, republicans will really get to see what a third-world country looks like. That might be a good time to buy stock in companies that make air conditioners.
My brother lost power in the storms that went through Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana on Monday. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is going into another heat wave.
As for the GOP, I fear that there is almost no common ground for some of them. If you disagree, you are an enemy.

I just found out that JD Vance lives in our former neighborhood.
