Don’t Give Up the Ship
Author: Raine    Date: 11/07/2024 13:48:29

Of all the horrible no-good, evil and consequential things that have happened - and will happen - there is something we have to talk about.

Children are growing up and have grown up to believe that this is just normal, that TSF is what politics is. A child born in 2010 is now almost 15 years old. They really don't have a memory of life before the red hats. Children generally aren't born political. We face red-hatted white tyranny; there is no sugar-coating it.

If we're going to be honest, this country has a shitty track record on teaching history. I don't see it getting better anytime soon. This is now a generational thing. I'd be lying if I said otherwise.

This is a break-glass moment
(Tri, there is a Jedi talk in here, so please read it.)
Or you can commit to taking some time off between now and inauguration day and prepare yourself for the upcoming political battle. It will not be waged with weapons of war, as many on the extreme right-wing lustfully imagine. In this struggle, you must become the ultimate ally of the true promise of the Constitution of the United States. And, like the oath, we swear in the Armed Forces that we will uphold, protect, and defend that sacred document. The time has come for you to do the same.

I don’t want you to do it in the cheesy Q-Anon, Mike Flynn way of standing in front of a video camera and taking a fake oath for TikTok. I want you to take the moment that hurts you the most, which will likely be high noon on January 20, 2025, and hold it in your heart. Swear to yourself that you will not let this abomination abide without your voice of opposition. Be it in op-ed commentary, Twitter responses, or calling into local radio shows, Facebook, whatever – Swear to make your voice heard because suppressing your voice is next up after suppressing your vote. In fact, they want you to suppress yourself.

Take in the words carved into the Thomas Jefferson memorial as a touchstone, “for I have sworn upon the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” That’s it. That’s your mission statement. Better memorize it because every form of tyranny over the mind of man is about to be imposed on you.
This is not political cosplay. it is the real deal and we cannot give up the ship without a fight. My nephews and my nieces mean too much to me to give up without a fight. I owe it to them whether they realize it or not. My family and my friends mean too much to me to give up. Lord knows I want to, but I refuse to give my soul to hate, repression, and apathy. It's not the way my mother raised me.

We must organize and be ready to act.

I will treat my differently winged family and friends with respect and demand the same of them. We have a lot of work ahead of us. We need not stand alone.

We must have courage. Here are some words from "Ulysses" by Alfred Lord Tennyson that gives me some courage. It portrays an older Ulysses ready for a long voyage after returning home and giving up the royal scepter to his son Telemachus.

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Meanwhile, others are stepping up. Gavin Newsom has a few words to say to the incoming president. (A friend expects Newsom to be the likeliest Democratic Party presidential nominee in 2028.)

Newsom Throws Down the Gauntlet

ice President Kamala Harris set out to fight to defend our fundamental freedoms and build a country that works for everyone. She stood up for working families, decency, and opportunity. Though this is not the outcome we wanted, our fight for freedom and opportunity endures.

“California will seek to work with the incoming president — but let there be no mistake, we intend to stand with states across our nation to defend our Constitution and uphold the rule of law.

“Federalism is the cornerstone of our democracy. It’s the United STATES of America.”

Yesterday, Thom Hartmann speculated that the blue states may work like semi-autonomous republics. TRegional groups of states worked together during the pandemic. That may provide a good foundation for the next few years. I have referred to this country as the Disunited States of America. It seems we may be there now.

Well, a preview of next week's AAV. A former friend of mine gloated about voting for the First Felon, and I have just cut her off at the fucking knees.

Worse, though - she's a military spouse. Husband is active Coast Guard. My research is, what percentage of the military voted for Trump?

Because - that means divided loyalty. Should they need to do what they must, will they be loyal to their oath to the Constitution, or would they maintain that fealty to Donald Trump?
