Fair Well, Kind Sir

President Carter has left this Earth. There isn't a lot I can say that others already have.

I am of the belief that while he deserves accolades for the things he did after being in office, he doesn't get credit for all he did while in office. He created the Department of Education and bolstered Social Security. He sought to improve the environment and added land to the National Park Service.
In foreign affairs, Carter set his own style. His championing of human rights was coldly received by the Soviet Union and some other nations. In the Middle East, through the Camp David agreement of 1978, he helped bring amity between Egypt and Israel. He succeeded in obtaining ratification of the Panama Canal treaties. Building upon the work of predecessors, he established full diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China and completed negotiation of the SALT II nuclear limitation treaty with the Soviet Union.
Far too often, we are told of the things he didn't do in his 4 years, I think we should focus on the good.

He wanted people to have faith in the Government again. He worked hard at that. He gave more than he took. I truly hope we will see more aspiring to lead government like he did.

Rest well, Mr. Carter.

Raine

I just heard on CBS that Carter also advocated for cannabis legalization. he told congress that the repercussions of using the drug should not exceed the actual harm of use.

I'm somewhat relieved that President Carter has passed while someone is in office who will memorialize him appropriately.

Also, his death now guarantees that flags all over the country will fly at half-staff during the inauguration next month.

Greetings, comrades.

Remember to be thankful that Mr. Carter's passing came in the waning days of the Biden Presidency.

Because you know Mr. Carter's legacy, family, and honour will be treated with decency and respect.

Try to imagine this happening under the First Felon.

One of his sons used to work for a company I worked for. He didn't seem to do much - I think it was just so the sales folks could say "Jimmy Carter's son works with us".
