I am coming!
Author: Raine    Date: 12/06/2007 13:25:33

ok... the blog is coming.
======================================================
The blog came.

This morning I woke up to write the blog. I found myself lying in a warm comfortable bed, and I did not want to get up. I did not want to look at the headlines. I did not want to get outraged. I did not want to become overwhelmed with the headlines du Jour. I did not want to justify everything that is going on in this world today. I wanted to lie in bed, where everything was perfect.

But I didn't lie in bed. I got up. Then I found myself not knowing what to write about. Romney and the speech he will be giving today about faith? Huckabee and his newest explanations about creationism and whatever drama will be happening with his campain? Hillary and her latest let-down? The hope of Kucinich? The bizarre facination of Ron Paul? Rudy... oh dear, what can I say about that train wreck...

I still don't know. I suppose I am suffering from overload today. So, I sit here and I think. I sip my coffee, I enjoy the sun shining in on the studio, I wave hello to a neighbor walking his dog. I take stock of this life. I listen to my partner clicking away on his keyboard in the other room. It's soothing. The slow hum of the heat coming thru the grates is almost hypnotic. There is so much richness in the silence.

So I thought what to write about. The political realm is so vast and complicated these days. I love it and I hate it all at once. And then it hits me. I have been writing my blog all along... And here it is:

It's a good life. I have friends. I have love. I have passion. I don't really want everything to be perfect, I simply want to be a part of this life, working in the great collective to make things better, just and equal. That is the power of love as activism, I suppose.

I am so grateful that all of you reading this are part of this life.

:peace: and
Raine.

P.S. Now get inside and kick some Republican ® ass!

70 Killed in China Mine Explosion

New York Times

By DAVID BARBOZA

Published: December 7, 2007

SHANGHAI, Dec. 6 — A gas explosion at a coal mine in northern China killed at least 70 people today and left at least 26 others trapped in one of the country’s worst mining accidents this year, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

The mine is in the city of Linfen in the southern part of Shanxi Province, a huge coal-producing region. Reports said 13 miners had been rescued but were hospitalized by the explosion.

Good morning to you!

We're all in our places

With smiles on our faces

And, this is the way

We start our new day.

GOOD MOOORNING!

Comment by TriSec on 12/06/2007 14:39:18
Morning, comrades!

TriSec's morning:

The sun low in the sky, shining it's baleful cold light on a slightly-dingy but still festive looking few days-old snow.

A still 19º in Waltham, dead calm, the snow crunching underfoot and a few chilled avians twittering in the trees.

Walking outside in the stillness, feeling like the only living thing around, at least until the morning parade of DPW trucks rolls down my street with their noxious diesel clouds.

Ah, winter in New England.

The official position:

I.8 Reproductive Rights

The Issue: The tragedies caused by unplanned, unwanted pregnancies are aggravated and sometimes created by government policies of censorship, restriction, regulation and prohibition.

Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on both sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.

The Principle: Individual rights should not be denied nor abridged on the basis of sex, age, dependency, or location. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for other people's abortions, nor should any government or individual force a woman to have an abortion. It is the right and obligation of the pregnant woman regardless of age, not the state, to decide the desirability or appropriateness of prenatal testing, Caesarean births, fetal surgery, voluntary surrogacy arrangements and/or home births.

Solutions: We oppose government actions that either compel or prohibit abortion, sterilization or any other form of birth control. Specifically we condemn the practice of forced sterilization of welfare recipients, or of mentally retarded or "genetically defective" individual. We support the voluntary exchange of goods, services or information regarding human sexuality, reproduction, birth control or related medical or biological technologies. We oppose government laws and policies that restrict the opportunity to choose alternatives to abortion.

Transitional Action: We support an end to all subsidies for childbearing or child prevention built into our present laws.

So, I stay at my desk with the internet close by and a book/play/paper to read.

Most of these mortgages have been picked up by hedge fund investors.

If they default, the investors don't get anything right? So, by striking this very limited deal, most investors still get their money.

Maybe?

you can read it all here. including the fact that Bush's daddy introduced Mitt... But first, lets look at this staement from willard:
"Mr. President, your generation rose to the occasion, first to defeat Fascism and then to vanquish the Soviet Union. You left us, your children, a free and strong America. It is why we call yours the greatest generation. It is now my generation's turn. How we respond to today's challenges will define our generation. And it will determine what kind of America we will leave our children, and theirs.

More TRMS...

Regarding Guantanamo, one of the arguments about it is that it is outside the soverign territory of the United States, so our laws don't apply.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the prison complex a part of the United States Naval Base at Guantanamo?

Aren't military bases, even overseas, considered American soil?

Unless the prisoners are on the Cuban side of the fence...

Climate change affects the NFL!!!

NEW YORK—Steaming black-guy heads, the traditional sign of approaching winter for generations of football fans, have been occurring later in the season with every passing year, a fact that may be evidence of a climatic change with long-term effects on football itself, top scientists in the meteorological department of the National Football League said in a study released Monday.

"The phenomenon of weather-related African-American supracranial vaporous emission, or 'Steaming Black-Guy Heads,' as it is colloquially known, occurs when cold dry winter air comes into contact with hot, humid, shaven heads of football players, causing their personal water vapor to condense and rise on a column of heated air," the statement read in part. "It is then observed by network cameramen, who overwhelmingly choose to film African-American players due to the dramatic contrasts that result—especially when the player in question is backlit—and beamed to millions of households during time-outs, replay reviews, and other stoppages of play. The viewers then realize that winter has come to America."

Given this definition of miser: : a mean grasping person; especially : one who is extremely stingy with money

I propose that both the Heat Miser and the Snow Miser are incorrectly named. I daresay that each should have the other's name, considering that they both want to spread around their respective temperatures, wouldn't oppposing snow therefore render the one in favor of higher temperatures the "snow miser" and vice versa?

Discuss.

TRi... far more important to discuss... which is better... *the Year with out a Santa Claus* or *Santa Claus in coming to town*? Seriously, you have a depressed Santa in one, and the other who overcomes the fascist Bergermeister. Both quite relevant to the times these days. What would have happened if Santa Had prozac? Would MRs Claus have begged him to eat?

Oh, Santa Claus is comin' to town by far.

Come on, we've got the abandoned baby, the fascist dictatorship, winter warlocks, the wacked-out lady on acid sequence, the whole works!

Year without a Santa Claus just has the misers, and then what? Some crazy levitating southern mayor, and that goofy kid walking around with his mouth wide open all the time?

But both fade to insignificance before The Story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, as told by Burl Ives, even if he was a total tool.

I go out on my dinner break and I miss the dinner discussion.

Here's an imdb review of Santa Claus is Coming to Town (1970);

This TV movie was an annual Christmas tradition during the 70's. At some point during the early 80's, the networks stopped showing it. Now, watching it in retrospect, it is easy to see why. A kind of post-Woodstock attitude pervades the whole thing (it was made in 1970, go figure). The young Santa becomes the hero by breaking the Burgermeister Meisterburger's law against toys and giving them out for free. The young Mrs.Claus has women's libber written all over her. At one point she starts singing and the TV screen erupts into psychedelic flower-power designs and dancing polka dots, I kid you not. Santa and Mrs. Claus, you see, are the perfect microcosm of rebellious youth versus the establishment in this film. To make things worse, there are pagan ceremonies including Santa and Mrs. Claus holding a marriage ceremony in the forest, and the Winter Warlock and his magic corn that helps reindeer fly. As the 80's began this holiday classic just didn't fit with the new Reagan era, although the kids probably wouldn't have known the difference. If you saw this in the 70's and have forgotten all about it, go rent it now (or next Christmas) and see how much of it you remember. Be sure and show it to the kids, too! Great stuff like this should never go out of style. Dated as it is, it is still better than 90% of the Christmas specials that are making their runs on the networks these days.

It's running on ABC Family a few times this weekend, but they will be cutting it to ribbons for commercials.

Something to ponder on this Pearl Harbor Day Eve...

Just heard on last week's Ring of Fire.

According to my Senator Kennedy, following WWII, the war crimes tribunal sentenced some Japanese commanders to death for torturing American POWs. Specifically for waterboarding them.

Sure puts things in perspective, hmm?

Comment by livingonli on 12/07/2007 03:11:29
Thom Hartmann has also mentioned the waterboarding as well. I also heard that an Army official was prosecuted for waterboarding when he did it in the Phillipine occupation in the early 1900s.
