Forty years ago yesterday.An unobtrusive memorial in Boston commemorates the loss to this Commonwealth. Unobtrusive, but in a prominent location in a park between Quincy Market and the North End. Thousands of people walk by it every day.

To a human life, four decades is about half of it. There are places and things that have changed immeasurably in four decades. There are places and things that have not changed a bit over a similar time period.
What is happening in the Middle East is far beyond a single human lifespan. You can find references to conflict in the Bible, alluding to events of more than 2,000 years ago over the same places and names we find in the headlines today.
It will take more than arms and diplomats to make any sort of positive change. But what would make that change seems elusive to all mankind.
