In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a political discussion blog founded upon four essential member freedoms:
The first is freedom of speech and expression--everywhere on this blog.
The second is freedom of every person to discuss politics in his or her own way, without ridicule or disparaging comments, everywhere on this blog.
The third is freedom from want--which, translated into internet terms, means respect and tolerance, which will secure to every forum a healthy place for discussion for our members - everywhere on this blog.
The fourth is freedom from fear--which, translated into internet terms, means a forum-wide reduction of trolling, ad hominem attacks, and personal insults to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no member will be in a position to commit an act of internet aggression against any member--anywhere on this blog.
That is no vision of a distant millennium. It is a definite basis for a kind of forum attainable in our own time and generation. That kind of forum is the very antithesis of the so-called partisan message boards which the trolls seek to create with the click of a mouse....
THEREFORE:
We, the founding members, state that the essential ideals of this blog include:
We require the demonstration of fundamental respect among and between posters on this blog;
We wish to foster, encourage, support, and defend honest discussion, and to minimize or eliminate discussion tactics which interfere with open honest discussion;
We propose that no one is wrong, evil, or useless solely because of the political association they hold;
We wish to cultivate the honest understanding of opposing or differing political philosophies, including fomenting the growth of honesty as a political and/or social leadership characteristic; and
While it is important to recognize that anger is a reasonable part of being a normal passionate human being, and that while FourFreedom's mission is not to inhibit anger, we reject the simulation of righteous anger to further a personal agenda.
These are the ideals that we as the founding members of FourFreedoms require of ourselves as well as every member once they decide to become a part of this blog community.
While we have a code of conduct and rules of engagement, one that all members will be held accountable to, we want all people who choose to be a part of this community to understand that this is a place where all people can come to talk with the understanding that respect and thoughtfulness are always at the forefront.
Welcome to Four Freedoms. Let's prove that hate can't win over logic.
