Schrödinger's Groundhog
Author: BobR    Date: 02/02/2022 12:37:27

Today is Groundhog Day, that time every year when a furry rodent is ceremoniously pulled from it's lair, held up for display, than uses its special meteorological powers to determine what the weather will be like for the next 6 weeks. The source of this special power is based on the fact that it's never had a vaccine, and --- WHAT?? YOU DON'T KNOW THAT!! GO DO YOUR RESURCH!!!

Ahem. Sorry...

Anyway, it's an odd tradition. If it's cloudy, then there will be an "early Spring". If it's sunny, that means 6 more weeks of winter. So six weeks from today means... *clickety-clackety* carry the one...

March 16. Hmm... The first day of Spring tends to be March 21. So six more weeks of winter still means an early spring. Wot?

A more modern meaning for Groundhog day is doing the same thing over and over until you get it right (which clashes with the concept that one meaning of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result). Considering that a graph of Covid infections looks like the soundtrack to some House music, I would think that like Schrödinger's cat (not really, but I like simile), both definitions somehow fit. If we just left that damn rodent alone, we could focus on the science.

I'M STILL NOT GETTING THE FAUCI OUCHIE - BUT SAW A VIDEO THAT SHOWED HOW LICKING A CAT'S ANU----MMMPPHHH!!!

Sorry again - that should be the end of that...

Although - this being Groundhog Day, you never know...

Mornin' all...

Sorry if I've been scarce lately. There's a lot going on with work, and now again at home. I'm not quite sure about the details yet tho. One thing's for sure - I'm going back to the dentist today and will probably be back there again very soon for root canal work.

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

I hope that everyone is well.

I fear that many who are doing the same thing in this pandemic are suffering from the inability to admit that they were wrong. Some will never admit that vaccines are a good idea.

being dead from Covid would really prevent an admission.

We have numerous incidents where someone who was against the vaccine asks for it in a hospital unit. At the same time, I have heard numerous reports of people denying that they had COVID-19 as they were dying.

Morning all

Yeah I'm sorry to be scarce too. Glad Bobber is on the mend..

Last week my anti-vax brother told us he was suffering from COVID pneumonia. Still at home, thankfully. Mom related to us that he was really feeling foolish and get the shots as soon as he was able to (another mind rotted by Fox News).

After the blizzard he still brought the snow blower down to clear Mom's driveway (though he had his son do that work) because he's been doing that all along and she couldn't find anyone on short notice. I HOPE he's serious about getting weaned off FN.

That was a really nice thing by Liv's previous employer to cover his funeral.

Ugh. I've had a few teeth pulled, and though that is brutal, it's quick. I'd still rather have that done than a root canal, which is like slow motion torture.

Considering how they fucked him over with his job, it's the least they could do.

Is anyone else feeling bereft at the news about Rachel's leave of absence?

I don't watch TV news much anymore, so not a big problem. I suspect she has a big project she wants to work on and complete before campaign season really gets rolling. I am looking forward to whatever that project might be.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow takes leave of absence.

Rachel Maddow told her audience Monday that she is taking a leave of absence, starting Thursday, to work on a movie version of her podcast, “The Bag Man.”

“This has been in the works for a while now — but now it looks like it’s going to happen,” Maddow said Monday. “There may be another hiatus again sometime in my future, but for now we’re taking it one step at a time.”

Rachel won't be back until sometime in April.

I think it's great she producing this film.

I'm just very curious as to who is going to take that seat... I believe it will be in good hands if her staff remain on board.

I tagged a few folks on my FB account, but for those here who I'm not friends with there, something unexpected showed up in my memories today.
Liv tagged me on a "25 Random Things About Me" post back in 2009. (Oddly, there's a notation that he edited it for some reason in March 2021.)
Considering yesterday was the day our friend was laid to rest, I thought folks might like to read this.
25 Random Things About Me.
Yes, the dreaded 25 things...

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right-hand corner of the page), then click Publish.)

Some of you may regret this;

1. My middle name is Mark but I never use it.
2. I never knew my biological family, but the foster parents who raised me I have considered my family even though they have both been gone for many years now. (13 years my mother, 18 ½ my father).
3. I have never been to Europe although I have been wanting to go for years. Hopefully, someday I will have the money to do it.
4. I love to travel in general but I seem to always be short on the time and money.
5. I always wanted to get into a programming position (not computer but with scheduling and creating lineups) when I decided to pursue a career in the media. Too bad such a position has never materialized for me since I don’t seem to know the right people.
6. When TV Guide used to publish local editions, I would always pick up the local edition or at least a newspaper supplement in any city that I was visiting or passing through.
7. I was very shy during my early years. I preferred often to keep to myself and I can still go into my shell when I am in a situation where I don’t know anyone.
8. I wish I could be fluent in multiple languages.
9. I have been dealing off and on with depression for many years now.
10. I am also diabetic but still can’t resist junk food.
11. I have also thought about changing careers because industry consolidation is killing off so many jobs. I just have to figure out what else I would be good at.
12. Because I am making less money than I was before my 2005 layoff, I am in a worst position financially now than I was unemployed.
13. I have to thank my virtual (and real) friends that I have made at airamericaplace.com and fourfreedomsblog.com who have helped me keep my sanity during the last few years of the Bush Administration and provide me with one of the bright spots of my life.
14. I was a late bloomer in many ways. I didn’t learn to drive until I was in college. And there were other things that seem to be connected to the shyness.
15. I am also a klutz.
16. I really hate the winter and I find wearing boots extremely uncomfortable. If I can’t be in a warmer climate, I just prefer to remain indoors.
17. When writing this list, I sound very boring. Guess I’m just not a party animal.
18. I love the pool and could be in one for hours. I think that’s why I like to travel either during the summer or to warmer climates so that I can enjoy the warm weather and get some pool time in as well.
19. I have been wearing thick glasses since I was 8.
20. If I was well off, I would spend a lot more time traveling.
21. And I wish I was well off. It would at least allow me to do things since I am more or less on my own.
22. I have let my apartment become too cluttered between my TV Guides and comic books. I have to start organizing them so I can sell some of my stuff.
23. I have wondered if there was a contradiction between my quiet, insular life and my embrace of off-beat humor and leftist politics.
24. Despite my dislike of the cold, I had been thinking of moving to Canada during most of the Bush Presidency. Now with Bush out and a right-leaning government still in charge in Canada, I have scrapped those thoughts.
25. If I had any super powers, I would like the ability to read minds and maybe time travel so that I could change some of the mistakes I made in my life.
26. And finally, it was hard for me to think I wanted to share with others since some things I always preferred to keep private.

Someone asked him what kinds of comic books he likes to read and this was his response:
my collection is mostly Marvel and DC's. I started collecting back in the 70's in the good old days when books were under a dollar. Too bad I don't have any silver-age books or even Giant-Size X-Men #1 because I could have some money there.
