Repeat after me

It is the guns. Repeat it just like the families who have lost loved ones have to.

IT. IS. THE. GUNS.
The young girl in a Connecticut hospital fighting for her life was her granddaughter -- the child of the son Rice lost to gun violence more than a decade earlier.

The girl, Se’Cret Pierce, died Friday morning. She was 2 years old when her young father, Shane Oliver, 20, was killed in the fall of 2012 only a few miles from where his daughter was shot.

Having a son gunned down brought sorrow and despair to the family. Now a granddaughter had perished, too.

“Never in a million years did I expect to respond to a call for my 12-year-old granddaughter,” Rice, a crisis response specialist, said in a text message Sunday.

Meanwhile, in another reality, people are destroying things that appear to woke.

It is not woke to want to prevent senseless deaths. That's all I have to say this morning.

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

I remember when a bad day at my high school as a kid involved a bunch of kids from another school coming over for a fistfight. How I long for those days.

I have not felt safe in this country for a while. As I moved to different cities, I was careful whom I let know I was Jewish. On the road to destinations, I kept an eye on my environment.

As a teacher, I have had students shot and at least two go to prison for committing gun violence. Other countries have social problems, but no advanced industrialized country has our gun problems. It is far easier to get a gun than a teaching license or many other things in our society.

It is heartbreaking.
