I think that TFG's base does not care what crimes he is accused of or even committed. Verdicts will likely not matter.
I would argue that we have a political cult here/ Many people have invested their identity with one man. So, seeing flaws in him is akin to seeing flaws in themselves. They can't admit to a mistake and will double down on their identification with their leader.
