Good Morning.
Well, it's election day north of the border. I'll be ignoring the elephant in the room today. There's no need to hash over the differences concerning our veterans where fascism vs. Democrats is concerned.
So instead, let's consider something a bit unusual for us here. The most important issue facing us as a nation is of course the southern border wall. According to the wannabe dictator, anyone who is not a white, male, Christian is automatically "untermensch" and shall be treated as such in his dark vision of this country.
He's had some willing help in this cause, as parts of the southern border are walled, guarded, or set up like a reverse prison-camp, razor wire keeping people out instead of in. But perhaps, someone at the Federal level remembered who has the actual authority in that regard, and some of that wire is coming down.
It's a curious thing, and naturally I've found a tenuous Boston connection. Here is a picture of the Customs House Tower in this city.
It's a vintage picture intentionally. That building was built in 1915. At the time, there was a local ordinance here in Boston that nothing could be built taller than the steeple of the Old North Church.
But since the Customs House Tower was built by the Federal Government - they didn't need to comply with local regulations, since they are the superior authority. The Customs House Tower was built, and became and remained the tallest building in this city for half a century.
So the question really is - who is actually in charge here? Using the Boston precedent, the Federal Government doesn't need any court permission, as they are the overarching authority. Especially since immigration is a Federal policy, and is not retained by the state under the tenth amendment.

WASHINGTON — A divided Supreme Court on Monday allowed Border Patrol agents to resume cutting for now razor wire that Texas installed along a stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border that is at the center of an escalating standoff between the Biden administration and the state over immigration enforcement.
The 5-4 vote clears the way for Border Patrol agents to cut or clear out concertina wire that Texas has put along the banks of the Rio Grande to deter migrants from entering the U.S. illegally. Some migrants have been injured by the sharp wire and the Justice Department has argued the barrier impedes the U.S. government's ability to patrol the border, including coming to the aid of migrants in need of help.
None of the justices provided any explanation for their vote. The one-page order is a victory for the Biden administration while the lawsuit over the wire continues.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott had authorized the wire, one of a series of aggressive measures the three-term Republican has taken on the border in the name of curbing illegal crossings from Mexico. His spokesman said the absence of razor wire and other deterrents encourages migrants to risk unsafe crossings and makes the job of Texas border personnel more difficult.
“This case is ongoing, and Governor Abbott will continue fighting to defend Texas’ property and its constitutional authority to secure the border,” Abbott spokesman Andrew Mahaleris said.
A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection did not immediately return a message seeking comment Monday.
A federal appeals court last month had forced federal agents to stop cutting the concertina wire.
The concertina wire stretches for roughly 30 miles (48 kilometers) near the border city of Eagle Pass, where earlier this month the Texas Military Department seized control of a city-owned park and began denying access to Border Patrol agents.

Last fall, all seven city council seats were up for grabs. On 7 November, after a campaign season packed with candidates, Minnesota’s capital city elected its new city council – comprised entirely of women. Last week marked the group’s inauguration.
Noecker’s fellow council members – Nelsie Yang, Cheniqua Johnson, Hwa Jeong Kim, Saura Jost, Anika Bowie and Mitra Jalali – are all women of color and, like her, progressive in their politics. All council members are also below the age of 40.
The diversity of the group is something newly elected council member Johnson, 28, called “amazing and affirming”.
Jalali was also reelected to the council and will now serve as its leader. Elected president in a unanimous vote, she said an all-female city council should be considered normal.
