Disclaimer: I am writing this last night because I have jury duty today. Happy Valentine's Day to me....

In case anyone was wondering what the Republican-led House thinks is important, it's pretty simple:

Ensuring the government stays open
Ensuring that Ukraine has what it needs to stave off Russia's attempts at hegemony
Ensuring that the rule of law is applied to the Jan 06 insurrection participants
Healthcare, food, etc. for those less-fortunate
Nearly anything that helps the American people
Passing a bill to provide border security

Impeaching the Secretary of the Homeland Security Dept for lack of border security:
House Republicans on Tuesday narrowly secured a historic vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, rallying GOP members after a first failed effort.

Mayorkas is the first Cabinet official to be impeached since the 1870s, a vote made all the more remarkable by Republicans’ inability to pass the same articles of impeachment last week, when three GOP members joined Democrats to tank the resolution, citing concerns their colleagues were abusing their impeachment power.

[...]

... they still lost the backing of the same trio of their colleagues, including Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.), who announced over the weekend he would no longer seek reelection. Reps. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) and Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) also remained opposed.

So while they refused to vote on a bill to provide funding and actions to secure the southern border, they are impeaching the secretary for - wait for it - failing to secure the southern border.

You can't make this up.

Sadly, either they fail to see the hypocrisy of their actions, or they do and assume the voting public won't notice. Sadly, that latter part is probably true for the majority of Republicans, since they'll knee-jerk support whatever they're fed, even when it comes directly from the ass of their "leaders".

Depending on the outcome of a special election for the seat occupied by former Republican House rep George Santos (the results of which were not yet announced as of this writing Tues evening), the lead held by Republicans in the House could narrow even further.

Fingers crossed... All it would take is 2 or 3 moderate Republicans tired of the shit-show to stop all this nonsense and vote with Democrats. Here's hoping there's a couple differently-winged Reps who are willing to do the right thing.

Suozzi won in New York, so the GOP majority in the House shrinks even more.
