Thanksgiving Eve Author: BobRDate:11/27/2024 14:43:23
Tis the day before Thanksgiving, and all through the house... well it's actually pretty quiet. Our respective families are states apart from us. Most of our neighbors are doing the travel thing, and none of our friends invited us to dinner (not that we were expecting or hoped anyone would).
Being childless and far from family has its own advantages, though. We're going out tomorrow, and then heading to NYC on Friday for an art exhibition.
So what are your plans for this long weekend? What are you thankful for?
Got a lot of things on tap for the weekend, but tempered somewhat by Papa TriSec having Covid right now. He remains a mild case - given that he's 90, we could just as easily be gathering around a hospital bed, but I digress.
Tonight, I'm sitting in the Junior Deacon's chair in another Lodge. Their Master was at a ceremony at ours, and he was suitably impressed by my performance that he asked me to sit in for his JD, who is traveling for the holiday. Should be fun.
I'm hosting tomorrow, so all the things are in place. Just have to cook them all. Pineapple Upside-Down cake in the morning (leftover from a Scout trip where we couldn't have fire to make it.) Full traditional Filipino for the day. Lumpia, Potstickers, and some Japanese snack mix to start. On to Lechon, Vegetable Pancit, Bok Choy and rice. Homemade cranberry sauce just finished. A commercial pumpkin pie because somebody in this house can't have Thanksgiving without one.
Friday is #optoutside day. But no offence to my old friends at REI - Javi and I will be opting outside at the Beantown Pub in Boston, and then walking over to Stanza dei Sigari in the North End for cigars and cocktails.
