Members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee received a memo Tuesday saying that the department is eliminating the membership of all advisory committees as part of a “commitment to eliminating the misuse of resources and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security.”
The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won’t have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Before Tuesday, the group included representatives of all the key groups in the industry — including the airlines and major unions — as well as members of a group associated with the victims of the PanAm 103 bombing. The vast majority of the group’s recommendations were adopted over the years. (snip)
Adding to Bernstein’s concern is the fact that TSA Administrator David Pekoske was fired even though he was originally appointed by Trump during his first term and was in the middle of what was supposed to be Pekoske’s second five-year term in the job after he was reappointed by Biden and confirmed by the Senate.

If the American Airlines crash happened a month ago this would be “sleepy Joe Biden” and “Comrade Kamabla’s’” fault.

I'm sure you've been waiting with baited breath for me to chime in. (Stop eating bait, btw. And yes, I know the correct terms.)
Disregard the politics for a minute.
Consider a military helicopter training at night. What is every member of the aircrew wearing? Night-vision goggles.
Have you ever worn a pair of said goggles? I have. They work great, but it's like looking through a paper-towel tube. Absolute, complete, tunnel vision.
Both aircraft may have been properly routed, handled, and acknowledged. The helo pilot lost situational awareness and could not see the commercial flight because of his vision restrictions, with the inevitable result.
The commercial pilot likely never saw him coming. Despite what you may think, you have a very limited view from the flight deck of a modern airliner. Anything approaching from the side is difficult to see; nevermind anything to the rear. You can't see the wings or the engines from the cockpit, for reference.
