“You arrogant SOB!” Michael Steele explodes at Trump’s billionaire Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick for saying his mother-in-law wouldn’t mind not getting a Social Security payment.

BREAKING: Chief Judge Boasberg denies the federal government's effort to vacate the TROs in the Alien Enemies Act case, finding that people the government claims are subject to the proclamation at least have a right to "individualized hearings to determine whether the Act applies to them at all."

Good morning, bloggers!!!!
I hope that everyone is well. (I am on spring break this week and often leave before the blog is up.)
It is ultimately about power and control, with wealth being used to track who is on top. My Mom would miss her Social Security check.
My hope is that Lutnick, Trump, Musk, and all will show the public who they are and the majority will reject them and their policies. (There will be die hards who will profess their loyalty to Trump's agenda no matter who gets hurt -- until it hits home.)
Boasberg separately also finds that Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act (FARRA) protections likely remain available to AEA removals.

Under FARRA, these plaintiffs could seek U.N Convention Against Torture (CAT) protections due to *where* they were being taken.

I had hopes of reducing my work hours at least down to thirty per week this year.
I'm already receiving SS checks and using them to *try* to build up my 401k a bit. I was also anticipating a small raise that would have helped make reducing my hours a little easier.
That means I'm deducting almost $1000 in that account monthly and using SS to pay rent and some bills.
That means I *would* miss my SS check, although I could arrange to reduce my deduction to make up the difference I'd miss.
I had to make the decision not to reduce my hours because my workplace receives about 99% of their funding from Medicaid and they're worried about what the orange nightmare's cuts might do to the organization on the whole.
So that means it's unlikely I'll get any kind of raise at all.
And if they screw with SS, I won't have that as a buffer for my reduced hours.
I just checked with my bank this morning and I *did* get my monthly SS deposit. No guarantee of that next month though.
Or the month after that.
SS is the only thing guaranteeing I can finally save substantially and still live in a decent neighborhood.
But I know people who live entirely month to month just on SS.
One used to be a science fiction writer but never really made a decent living from it.
She has disabilities, lives in a senior income-based apartment building and is terrified about cuts to HUD, SNAP, programs that help her with paying for heat, Medicare, increased prices of prescriptions, and now the potential loss of her monthly SS - her *only* income..
She now has to consider trying to write again so she can afford to eat and stay where she lives, and feels that she's forced into looking towards websites like Patreon.
This is someone who needs to ask friends to help her for *any* unexpected expenses. She has absolutely no savings for emergencies.
(And let's not even discuss that if, by some miracle, she wound up with more than $2000 in savings she wouldn't be eligible for that income-based housing.)
Fuck you, Lutnick.
