I am writing this Tuesday night, since I have a doctor appt this morning at 8:30. As of right now, I have no idea who won the race. We may not know for certain for several days (remember 2020?). I am trying to remain optimistic, but I recall how optimistic we were in 2016. That was a gut-punch I hope we are not going to have to re-live.
I don't know how we got here as a country. The differences couldn't have been more clear. Kamala Harris is a smart, experienced, and compassionate person. The Other Guy is a sunsetting asshole who can barely formulate a sentence. But - he's white and he's male, and he makes other assholes feel emboldened. Apparently that's more important than competent leadership.
The results of this election will make clear to me which states and/or cities I never want to set foot in again. It's disgusting how many of my fellow countrymen (and countrywomen) are willing to overlook his blatant flaws. It's gross, disappointing, and makes me want to live in a more enlightened country.
We've seen the rumblings of Germany in the 1930s occurring at his hate rallies, especially the Nazi rally at MSG. Regardless of the outcome, this cannot stand. We must push back against this festering infection on the nation's soul. If we don't, there's no one who will save us from ourselves.
